MEMPHIS, TN (WHDH/AP) — Pest control company Terminix will pay $87 million to a family who was poisoned at a condo in the Virgin Islands during a vacation.

The Delaware family all became seriously ill shortly after arriving at the vacation home on St. John last year. One man was paralyzed after checking into the home that was located above a unit in which Terminix exterminators had sprayed a neurotoxin called methyl bromide.

The man’s teenage sons remained in critical condition for weeks after exposure to the gas.

Terminix admitted one of its employees sprayed the apartment with an odorless gas that was banned from indoor use in the 80s.
