ABELINE, Texas (WHDH) — A Lowe’s in Texas offered a job to both a war veteran and his therapy dog.

Clay Luthy had three deployments out of Uzbekistan and two out of Qatar. After undergoing multiple knee surgeries, including a knee reconstruction, he was unable to re-enlist. He now relies on support from his therapy dog, Charlotte, and she accompanied him on a recent job interview to work at hardware store Lowe’s.

“We were interviewing people for his position and he was one of the applicants and so he showed up for the interview and he had Charlotte with him,” said Human Resources Manager Jay Fellers. Luthy wanted to make sure Charlotte would not be an issue if he was hired and Fellers told him employees’ service dogs have never been a problem.

Luthy was hired a few weeks later and said he is very happy that he is able to work instead of sitting at home. Charlotte sticks by his side and he even made a special work vest for her. Lowe’s often schedules Luthy to work in departments like paint, where Charlotte can sit and take a break for awhile.
