Another stellar day with highs soaring to the upper 60s. We did well in this streak of above normal temperatures. Since the 10th of this month, we’ve only had 2 days below normal! That’s a spring fling if I’ve ever seen one.
But all good things must come to an end. And the cooler air moving in tonight will shut down the 60s and 70s for a while. Not forever, mind you, but a good many days into early next week.
Showers are moving eastbound as I type. They had more fire in their bellies this afternoon as they plowed through NYC diverting flights to us and surrounding airports along the Eastern Seaboard. Now they’re shadows of themselves and will scatter about through the midnight hour.
We’ll wake to sun tomorrow and a steady wind, then the clouds will billow up and blot out the sun for the afternoon. One or two (or maybe a few) may even grow into a brief shower.
In the coming days, the air will be cold upstairs. If these daily (called diurnal) showers pop, there might even be some graupel falling:
No, it’s not hail. It’s a cousin of hail (and sleet). Pretty neat, eh?
Don’t be alarmed, it will also be brief and spotty…if it happens at all. Hard to predict sometimes.
Baby steps to warmer weather for the weekend.
