“It could be worse.” While that’s an optimistic way to view challenging situations, in terms of snow and cold, I’m not sure we can say that anymore. This month very well should go down as “the worst” in terms of the combined snow and cold. We’re nearing 60″ for February in Boston alone (smashing any monthly record for snow) and the average temperature of 18.4 degrees is amazingly close to the record coldest month EVER recorded in Boston at 17.5 degrees, back in February 1934.
What’s in store for our future? You guessed it, more cold and more snow.
Other than a passing midday/early afternoon snow shower today, we’re pretty much done with the snow today. Brutally cold air makes a return tonight as lows plunge back to 0 or below again. Factor in the wind, and wind chills run -15 to -25 overnight and early tomorrow morning. Highs only make it into the teens Friday.
It’s a frigid start early Saturday morning, then the numbers moderate toward the upper 20s in the afternoon. The beat goes on.
Weekend Storm
-Snow starts Saturday night, perhaps a few inches (several inches northwest of 495)
-Snow to freezing rain/showers by Sunday morning
-Precip totals (liquid equivalent of snow/ice/rain) runs 0.5-1.0″.
-Precip adds weight to snowpack of roofs, melting snow/rain causes ponding/urban flooding issues around snow clogged drains.
-Rivers and streams are ok.
Following Sunday’s mess, cold air blasts in here again to start the new work week. More snow may show up mid-week too.
