LANCASTER, MASS. (WHDH) - Thousands of turkeys were lost in a massive fire at a Lancaster farm Thursday.

The fire started at Bob’s Turkey Farm on Old Common Road. On their Facebook page, the farm said one of their large barns burned to the ground and they lost more than 7,000 turkeys. Around 2,600 of the birds that died had just hatched Thursday morning.

Bob’s Turkey Farm still has around 3,000 turkeys that survived but said it is too late to replace the ones lost in time for the Thanksgiving season.

The Van Hoof and Miner families have run Bob’s Turkey Farm since 1954. They said the farm is their livelihood and they are devastated by the fire.

“I don’t know how we’ll recover. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Susan Miner.

Fire crews from several towns were on the scene.

No people were injured.

The owners plan to assess the damage on Friday.
