Proving that even the best teams can sometimes falter, a few teams that looked invincible after Week 1 are suddenly in the middle of the pack in Week 2.
Trey Daerr, whose 165 points were far and away the most in the league in the season’s opening week, couldn’t duplicate his success this time around. Daerr’s team mustered 78 points and lost to Tim Caputo, who managed 96 points in the win. It wasn’t a pretty matchup – the two players’ starting running backs combined for 4 points (for Daerr, Carlos Hyde managed 5 and Jeremy Hill had -1; for Caputo, Eddie Lacy and Ameer Abdullah had 0). But defense and special teams, as they so often do, decided this matchup. Caputo earned 36 points from kicker Mason Crosby and the Broncos D; Daerr managed only 12 from his pairing.
The high scorer of the week was Alex Corddry, who put up 117 points for the second consecutive week. Ben Roethlisberger led the Corddry charges with 40 points, while Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski combined for 39 points each. That was more than enough to dispatch of Brandon Gunnoe, who posted 96 points.
Other winners this week included Dan Hausle, who snuck past Pete Bouchard to move to 2-0 on the year, and Nicole Oliverio, who looked much better in a 91-53 win over Kris Anderson. Joe Amorosino remains unbeaten after a 101-101 tie against Jeremy Reiner. For Amorosino, Eric Decker and the Jets defense scored 28 on Monday night to help him draw even with Reiner.
Reiner is still winless, but he’ll have a chance to end that streak when he takes on fellow meteorologist and winless opponent Pete Bouchard in Week 3.
