Massachusetts Emergency Management is offering winter pet safety tips with extreme cold expected this weekend.

Pet owners are being advised to keep their pets indoors. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pets.  MEMA says not to keep your pets outdoors for long periods of time.

Salt and other chemicals used to melt ice can hurt your pet’s feet. MEMA recommends rubbing the bottom of your pet’s paws with a damp towel to remove any salt or chemicals.

You should also provide your pet with a little extra food and water, because pets that spend time outdoors in the winter use up a lot of energy to stay warm.
