A woman in Johnston, Iowa got an unusual surprise when police stopped her car recently – a marriage proposal.

Jeff Schultze was driving with his girlfriend Jenna Reitz to visit Jeff’s parents when a police officer stopped the car.

Officer Matt Chiles ordered Schultze out of the car, searched him and asked Reitz to identify merchandise that was possibly stolen.

When Reitz walked around the side of the car, Schultze bent down on his knee and asked Reitz to marry him. She said yes.

Schultze, who got a speeding ticket on Thanskgiving day as he and Reitz were going to meet Schultze’s parents for the first time, arranged the marriage proposal with police.

"I’m happy I was involved with it,’ said Officer Matt Chiles.
