While plenty of clouds left temperatures stuck in the upper 70s to near 80 yesterday, today, the heat and humidity won't be denied. Hazy sun will warm temperatures up to the upper 80s and lower 90s. Combined with dew point levels running around 70, and it'll feel more like 95-100 this afternoon. Hitting the ball field or golf course? Drink plenty of water on a day like today. For those of you heading to the beach… enjoy the summer time warmth as most of the day is dry. I say most of the day, because Maine and NH beaches have the risk for a thunderstorm this afternoon and North Shore beaches may catch one late in the day. South Shore/Cape/Islands, your chance won't come until around and after sunset.
Thunderstorms that fire this afternoon have plenty of heat and humidity to feed off of and could be locally strong/severe with strong, damaging wind gusts and lots of cloud to ground lightning. Storms mid to late afternoon will be most numerous across northern Mass, NH and VT. Those storms push south into the early evening hours before ending overnight. Storms may become fewer and farther between the farther south in Massachusetts one goes, especially over SE Mass, so not all towns will get hit. Bottom line, keep an eye to the sky later today/tonight. If you're heading to Foo Fighters tonight, while it's possible that it stays storm free, there is the risk for a passing storm this evening, so keep that in mind.
The front that goes through tonight is a "cold" front but in reality, the biggest difference tomorrow is the drop in humidity, not in temperatures. Highs again tomorrow take a run at 90 degrees but with lowering humidity in the afternoon. If Boston doesn't hit 90 today thanks to a potential sea breeze, it'll likely hit 90 tomorrow for the first time this year. Tomorrow looks dry as the front will be through already, so there's nothing to trigger thunderstorms, especially since the humidity goes down.
We could catch a thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon, otherwise much of the upcoming week looks quiet.
Enjoy your Sunday!
