BROCKTON, MASS. (WHDH) - An 18-wheeler knocked down wires in Brockton Wednesday morning, officials said.
Police said the truck was traveling south on Montello Street just before 10 a.m. when it became entangled with several wires while turning right onto Garfield Street. This caused the utility pole to fall.
National Grid crews say the wires could have sparked a fire. Those lines were quickly shut off.
SKY7-HD was over the scene, where live wires were seen draped over the truck and a nearby home.
“I say thank you God, thank you God, because everybody’s alive,” said homeowner Jean Wilfrid Sinord.
Fredlin Sinord was also inside when the truck hit the pole.
“A big boom. A boom big enough for me to stop what I was doing,” Fredlin Sinord said. “A fire would’ve been kind of devastating. This is a neighborhood that probably wouldn’t have taken too kindly to a fire raging through it.”
Power was out in the neighborhood for a while but has since been restored.
