Two companies recall tuna cans due to health risk

Two canned tuna producers are recalling products due to potential health risks involved.

Tri-Union Seafoods LLC announced a voluntary recall of more than 107,000 cans of Chicken of the Sea brand cans of tuna – both chunk light tuna in water and chunk light tuna in oil.

The company announced the recall is due to the product potentially being undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, which was uncovered during an inspection. There have been no reported illnesses.

The 5-ounce cans were sold between Feb. 10 and March 16. Customers may return the product for a full refund.

The affected products are listed below:

Chicken of the Sea Brand 5 oz. canned chunk light tuna in oil in single cans.

The UPC code is 0 4800000195 5 and the Best By date is 2/10/19.

Chicken of the Sea Brand 5 oz. canned chunk light tuna in water sold at retailers nationwide in single cans.

The UPC code is 0 4800000245 7. The Best By dates are:

Bumblebee Foods LLC has announced a voluntary recall of three specific tuna products due to a potential health risk.

More than 31,000 cans are affected by the recall.

The company says that individual cans of chunk light tuna in water and chunk light tuna in oil, as well as four-pack cans of chunk light tuna in water, are affected. The recall is due to "underprocessing of the affected products…during its routine quality audit.

Bumblebee Foods LLC says that there are no reports of illnesses associated with the recall so far.

Consumers who purchased the product should throw it away. For reimbursement, customers should contact Bumblebee by phone at 888-820-1947 or visit the official recall website.

The recalled items were produced in February 2016. The specific items are noted below.
