Two people were killed in a house fire in Groton Friday morning.
The fire began just before midnight on Friday in the single family home.
The home suffered extensive damage. When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was engulfed in flames. It is unknown how long the fire had been burning at that point.
Two people were found on the first floor. Officials said it is unclear if they were attempting to get out of the house.
According to the fire chief, firefighters did not know when the call came in that people were inside, but it quickly became clear people were unaccounted for.
Officials said no information about the adult victims will be released until the next of kin are notified.
There was no one else in the house at the time of the fire.
State investigators are now on the scene to determine a cause.
