CHELMSFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - Tyngsborough police have charged the suspect who allegedly dragged a police officer with a car Sunday.
Michael Clark, 27, of Tyngsborough was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), operating negligently to endanger, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, receiving stolen property over $250 and failure to stop for a police officer.
Clark will be arraigned Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Boston Medical Center, providing his medical condition allows.
According to police, a Tyngsborough police officer found the suspect around 8:30 Sunday night. The officer then followed Clark down Route 3.
Clark left Route 3 near the Chelmsford line, and a Chelmsford officer also attempted to stop the car.
A later investigation revealed the car was reported stolen from Lowell General Hospital shortly before 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
Clark allegedly drove the car to Nashua, New Hampshire and made several fraudulent purchases with the car owner’s credit cards.
The car entered the parking lot at Sully’s Ice Cream Stand on Graniteville Road in Chelmsford, and a Chelmsford sergeant approached the car.
Clark then allegedly backed up, and dragged the officer several yards.
Fearing the safety of the Chelmsford officer, a Tyngsborough officer shot Clark.
Clark sustained two gunshot wounds and was Med-flighted to Boston Medical Center.
The Chelmsford officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was later released.
The Tyngsborough officer who shot Clark is currently on administrative leave per department policy.
The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Tyngsborough Police Department and the Chelmsford Police Department.
