Team USA’s Kevin Cordes and Josh Prenot finished seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 200m breaststroke preliminary heats on Tuesday afternoon to advance to the 16-man nighttime semifinals.

Cordes raced to two minutes, 9.30 seconds to advance out of the heats. On Sunday, Cordes – a rookie at these Rio Olympics – finished just off the podium in fourth place in the 100m breaststroke with 59.22 seconds.

Prenot raced to a tenth place overall in the heats with his time of 2:09.91.

Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta, the 2012 Olympic champion in the event, finished in 17th place by 0.02 seconds.
