We’re just 3 weeks into the season in the 7News Fantasy Football League, but three teams have clearly separated themselves from the pack.
Dan Hausle, Tim Caputo, and Joe Amorosino were the lone unbeatens through Week 2, and they stayed that way this week as well. Caputo posted a dominant 157 points to topple Brandon Gunnoe in a high-scoring affair by both teams. Hausle also moved to 3-0 by toppling Trey Daerr. And Amorosino moved to 2-0-1 on the season with a big win over Kris Anderson.
For Caputo, it was a full team effort – Lions WR Calvin Johnson was his lowest-scoring producer and still managed to post a 7-point effort. Falcons RB Devonta Freeman and Panthers QB Cam Newton led the way with 37 and 36 points, respectively. That was enough to edge a valiant effort by Gunnoe, who rode top efforts by Larry Fitzgerald, Tom Brady, and the Cardinals D to post a more-than-respectable 144 points. But a goose egg by kicker Matt Prater, on a day when the team needed to be perfect to win, proved to be his undoing.
Hausle’s top-end talent was too much for Trey Daerr to overcome – his trio of Julio Jones, Peyton Manning, and Adrian Peterson was almost enough on its own to take down Daerr, whose team struggled to find the end zone. A Cincinnati duo of RB Jeremy Hill and TE Tyler Eifert combined for 2 points, undermining Daerr’s efforts.
For Amorosino, big days by Andy Dalton and DeAndre Hopkins paced the win with a respectable 98 points, but it was Anderson’s use of the Dolphins D – and their -6 points – that was the real undoing. A less-than-stellar effort by Rams RB Todd Gurley in his first NFL game also produced 0 points.
Other matchups included Nicole Oliverio moving to 2-1 with a 105-87 win over Alex Corddry, and Pete Bouchard earning his first win of the year with a big 148-119 victory over Jeremy Reiner in a meteorological matchup.
Week 4 promises to be full of fireworks, as 3-0 Hausle and 3-0 Caputo square off to settle the top of the standings. Sports reporters Joe Amorosino and Alex Corddry also square off, and Oliverio’s matchup against Gunnoe looks to be close.
