DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — The University of New Hampshire anticipates a reduction of jobs after a consulting group released a report to review its finances, the school’s president said in a letter to faculty, staff and students.
The university is not yet able to project how large the reduction will be, UNH President James Dean Jr. said in the letter Monday. He also said there’s no list of affected employees.
“We recognize that eliminating positions is difficult and painful,” Dean wrote. “Anyone who has their position eliminated will be treated with the utmost concern and respect; we are already exploring potential outplacement services.”
Dean told Seacoastonline.com that some employees have expressed frustration and called for more information.
“We’re at the beginning. For all of us, there are more questions than answers. There’s no secret plan,” he said.
The review by Chicago-based Huron Consulting Group was released earlier this month. The university said it could realize benefits greater than $12 million, or approximately 2% of its operating budget, over the next two years through implementing Huron’s recommendations. Areas of focus include academic costs, information technology, and libraries, among others.
More discussion is planned during the Feb. 4 State of the University address and at town halls at UNH campuses.
