HOPKINTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A Massachusetts State Police trooper and his canine partner are doing well after their cruiser was struck on Route 495 on Monday.

In an update, officials said both were on the mend after an SUV hit their vehicle in Hopkinton while they were working a traffic detail.

The 37-year-old trooper was taken by ambulance to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where he was admitted and observed overnight while the canine was taken by Westborough EMS, per Nero’s Law, to Tufts Veterinary Hospital in North Grafton.

The driver of the SUV, a 2020 Subaru Forester, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to state police. He was described as being an 81-year-old man from Connecticut who was also hospitalized after the crash.

In a press release, MSP officials said possible charges would be determined following an investigation. Details on the cause of the incident have not yet been released.
