Sochi 2014 could be a historic year for American ice dancing. The US has never had gold medal winning ice dancers but this year Meryl Davis and Charlie White could be America’s best shot at bringing home the gold.

The pair has been skating together since 1997. They’ve won five straight national championships and took home the silver medal four years ago in Vancouver.

You can’t forget the Alex and Maia Shibutani also known as “the Shib Sibs.”

The brother-and-sister duo call Ann Arbor, Michigan home but Alex was born at Brighham and Women’s here in Boston, and he calls himself a Boston sports fanatic. Together, they won bronze in last year’s us championships.

And finally the US will be sending a pair of pairs team to Sochi.

As the defending national champs, locals Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir are the ones to beat.

“We’re just excited to have a full-on cheering squad. We’re going to have a lot of people here for us. I’m already looking around and just visualizing all the people here 3817 and it’s going to be great, we’re going to have great energy,” Castelli said.

Marissa grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island and now lives in Boston and Simon was born in Moscow, Russia but grew up here in Sudbury.
