MIAMI (WHDH) - A south Florida fisherman with a Boston crew said he has seen a lot of strange things in the ocean.
But “Mark the Shark” never expected to catch his latest find: a brick of cocaine.
Mark said he saw “a strange looking, suspicious looking package floating on the water,” that he decided to take a closer look at.
“Lo and behold, it was one of those floating parcels that I had only ever heard about, never saw one in person,” Mark said.
The package contained thousands of dollars of worth of cocaine.
After getting a closer look, the charter captain scooped it up into his boat.
Mark’s immediate reaction was, “I’ve got a new boat.”
Instead, the group called in the coast guard to pick up the illegal drugs.
Boston native Chase Newton was also on board.
“Definitely a Miami-only story that I’ll be sure to tell all of my friends from home.”
“In the old days, we used to see the square groupers, the marijuana bales all of the time, but never the cocaine stuff. That is all new to us,” Mark said.
