YPSILANTI, Mich. (WHDH) — A Michigan barbershop offered up something other than a fresh cut.

The shop said any kid who reads aloud while getting their cut gets a discount.

One barber said the program not only gives the young men confidence, it makes reading “cool.”

“The kid couldn’t read, so the kid just counted cupcakes for me, but what the kid did was put a book in his hands. That’s the important part. The kid put a book in his hands,” said Ryan Griffin, a barber at the shop.

The barbershop supplies a variety of books for kids to choose from—many of which center around black history.
