ANN ARBOR, MI (WHDH) — U.S. infants are now becoming youngest victims of opioid addiction.

The University of Michigan published a study that reported an eight percent increase in infants born with opioid addiction in rural areas.

The study shows 21 percent of U.S newborns with withdrawal symptoms in 2013 were from rural counties, up from 13 percent in 2004.

In 2004, the rate of newborns born with withdrawal symptons in urban and rural areas was about the same.
