MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say two universities in South Florida are on lockdown following a shooting that injured a man.

Television news stations in Miami are reporting that the shooting took place shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday near the front gate of Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens. The man was taken to a Miami hospital for treatment and his condition wasn’t available.

Florida Memorial and nearby St. Thomas University immediately went on “lockdown,” meaning students were not allowed onto or off of the campuses.

In an email to students, officials at St. Thomas said they’d been notified that Miami Gardens police were in pursuit of an armed suspect in the area.

No further details were immediately available.
