New York Senator Chuck Schumer is putting pressure on the federal government to consider recalling electronic cigarette batteries and devices that explode and catch fire.

Schumer called on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Drug Administration to consider the recalls. He said faulty lithium-ion batteries made overseas are seen as likely culprits for the explosions.

“With dozens and dozens of exploding incidents, the feds should review whether there is a pattern related to e-cigarette and batteries,” Schumer said.

Batteries and devices that have caught fire and exploded have injured dozens of users across the nation.
