MARTIN COUNTY, FL (WHDH) — The Fourth of July holiday will not be bringing any tourist dollars to beaches in four Florida counties this year.
Smelly, toxic algae has coated beaches and marinas on both the east and west coasts of the state.
The bloom was created when water, loaded with agricultural runoff, was released from an inland lake.
It could impact people’s health.
According to the Florida department of Environmental protection, toxic blooms can affect the gastrointestinal system, liver, nervous system and skin.
