DECATUR, Ga. (WHDH) — The United States Postal Service (USPS) is now investigating after a postal worker was caught on camera dumping piles of mail in a ditch in Georgia.

The president of a homeowner’s association in Decatur, Georgia said she saw the postal worker do it on Tuesday and she recorded the incident on her cellphone.

“At one point he actually stopped and took a break, like he was tired, and continued to toss mail and he eventually just drove off like it was normal,” said Kellie Campbell.

Officials said what the postal worker did is actually a federal offense. Five U.S. postal investigators spent more than two hours picking up all the mail from the ditch. The USPS issued a statement saying they are investigating the incident:

“The Postal Service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, behavior that jeopardizes the security and sanctity of the U.S. Mail – or threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust, that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to upload. We are investigating this matter.”
