A death certificate for one of the victims, 79-year-old Mary Myott of Essex Junction, says she died July 3 of hyperthermia in a home where the temperature had increased to 115 degrees.
Another woman, 57-year-old Mary Couture, was found dead in her Milton home along with her two deceased dogs. A death certificate says she died of “high environmental temperature.”
Officials are reminding Vermonters during extreme heat to check on older adults, children and people with mobility issues or chronic illnesses to ensure they have access to adequate cool shelter and plenty of fluids.
