BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont man was arrested Friday in the shooting death of his stepfather, two days after his mother also was charged in connection with the case.
Vermont State Police arrested Kory Lee George, 31, of Williston, on suspicion of first-degree murder, burglary and obstruction of justice in the July 11 death of David Auclair in Hinesburg. He pleaded not guilty on Friday.
Police said George participated in a coordinated effort to kill Auclair at a trailhead parking lot. They said he burglarized a home where a gun was stolen that was used in the shooting and gave false information about where he was when Auclair was killed. He is also accused of requesting that individuals contact witnesses and tell them to lie to police.
On Wednesday, Auclair’s wife, Angela Auclair, 47, of Bristol, who is George’s mother, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of aiding in the commission of first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Police say David Auclair was lured to a parking lot and shot multiple times.
The next morning, Angela Auclair called the police to report her husband missing. She said he had been called in to work the night before and never came home, but the investigation found there had been no emergency at his workplace.
A witness later told investigators that a week before David Auclair’s death, his wife and George discussed killing David Auclair. Police recovered the gun and a phone used to call David Auclair from the Lewis Creek, near where he was killed.
