MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The board of the financially challenged Vermont State College System has voted to proceed with a plan to consolidate the three residential colleges and make the Community College of Vermont a separate institution.
Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and Vermont Technical College would be under a common accreditation in academic year 2023-2024, the board said Monday.
The plan includes significant administrative consolidation, the board said.
“I want to be clear that the Board is committed to maintaining our current campus locations,” said board chairman Lynn Dickinson in a written statement. “In future years, the configuration of the campuses might look a little different as we work to update our physical footprint to help bring system costs down, but we are committed to doing so in a way that keeps our current campus locations open.”
The Vermont State College System is seeking $67.4 million including the base appropriation, an increase in base funding, funding to address structural deficits, plus $8 million in transformation expenses for fiscal year 2022, WCAX-TV reported.
