The victims of the attack at Fort Hood in 2009 will receive Purple Hearts Friday.
Governor Greg Abbott will present the medals during a ceremony in Texas.
In November of 2009, Major Nidal Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood, killing 13 and injuring more than 30.
The civilian equivalent of the Purple Heart, the Defense of Freedom Medal, will be presented to each victim who was not part of the military.
