No charges will be filed against an off duty officer who shot and killed a man police say entered an Ohio bank in an attempted robbery and tried to fire his gun.
Terry Frost was shot and killed on Wednesday when he tried to rob a Cincinnati bank.
Surveillance video released Friday showed Frost entering the bank and jumping over the teller counter, where a teller was counting $90,000 in cash.
Police said Frost pointed a gun and fired but it was loaded incorrectly and misfired.
Off duty officer Kevin Hankerson was working security at the bank and pushed the teller out of the way, firing twice at Frost, and striking him once.
Cincinnati Police Chief Elliot Isaac said Hankerson acted in a manner designed to save lives, pulling a bank employee out of harm’s way at a critical moment.
After Frost was shot, he ran from the bank. He was found dead in nearby woods.
Hamilton County Prosecutor, Joseph Deters praised Officer Hankerson for his actions.
“When you enter a bank with what appears to be weapon, vault over the top of the teller’s cage, approach a teller with your arm uplifted in a shooting position, Officer Hankerson was absolutely justified in what he did that day,” Deters said.
