LUDLOW, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police say they have arrested a Ludlow man in the death of an infant last January.

Police say 23-year-old Tyler Pollender-Savery was arrested Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of 11-month-old Karsen Rickert.

Authorities say the infant died of asphyxia due to strangling and/or smothering.

Pollender-Savery was the live-in boyfriend of the infant’s mother when the child was reported to be unresponsive on Jan. 18. The child was later pronounced dead at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.

It was not immediately known Pollender-Savery he is being represented by an attorney. He was tentatively scheduled to be arraigned late Monday afternoon.
