MATTAPAN, Mass. (WHDH) — Friends and family attended a wake Wednesday afternoon for a young boy who drowned at his summer camp in South Boston last week.

The wake for 7-year-old Kyzr Willis was held at a church in Mattapan. Tuesday night, a vigil was held at the community center where he died to mark one week since his death. At the end of the vigil, green and purple balloons were released in his memory.

Kyzr was at a summer drop-off program at Carson Beach when he went missing. Police, lifeguards and other rescue crews searched for hours until they located his body in the water. His death was ruled an accidental drowning.

The summer camp’s director is on paid leave while the investigation continues.

A funeral will be held Thursday morning in Mattapan before Kyzr is laid to rest in Boston.
