WALTHAM, Mass. (WHDH) — Police in Waltham believe one suspect is responsible for a string of purse robberies in the Main Street area.
In one incident an elderly woman tried to fight off the suspect and was knocked to the ground but not seriously hurt.
Three women have reported being robbed. Two near a wine store and another near a bank.
"Yes, I'm worried. I live around here." said concerned resident Marie Roland
Police say if you are being robbed to scream loudly to attract attention and walk in groups. Others who walk in the area have their own tactics to deter would-be thieves.
"I carry a fannie pack around my coat because it's under there. I think I'm better safe that way,” Sharon Lewis said.
