The Washington Monument was closed Sunday, right in the middle of spring break and cherry blossom season.
The monument had its second elevator issue of the week on Friday, and has been closed ever since.
The National Park Service said the elevator malfunctioned at 490 feet after unloading passengers.
Nobody was trapped, but 86 visitors had to be escorted down hundreds of steps.
