WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WHDH) - Video shows the moment a child was nearly hit by a minivan Tuesday when a driver slammed through the Dollar Tree in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, an intentional move by a disgruntled former employee.
The child moved out of the path of the vehicle right before it crashed through the glass door of the store. The driver can then gets out of the car, slamming the door.
Investigators said the man, 49, had been fired the previous day by the store.
Police said they initially responded to a disturbance between two people at a home. They said the suspect stole the other person’s car, drove to the Dollar Tree on Park Avenue and crashed through the front doors. After he did so, he became visibly agitated and tried to get inside the store.
During the scuffle, police said he assaulted a Good Samaritan trying to help and threw objects at officers before they used a stun gun on him and took him into custody.
The man faces several charges, and will be arraigned in Providence District Court.
The window where the car crashed into the store is boarded up. The store is closed for now as employees clean the mess inside.
