WATCH: Top highlights from Day 3 at Rio Olympics

Day 3 in Rio saw the first-ever women’s rugby gold medal. It saw two more dominant performances by the U.S. men’s and women’s basketball teams. It saw another appearance on the podium — this time with a new synchro partner — for American diver David Boudia. It saw Kohei Uchimura and Japan’s men’s gymnasts win team gold, as the U.S. fell to 5th. It saw rookies Lilly King and Ryan Murphy set records in the pool (two of six swimming medals earned by Americans), in addition to exciting semifinal races for Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. And it saw the historic Olympic debut of fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, the first American to compete in a hijab.
