Flirting with 60° and even making it to the mark in a few spots! This doesn’t exactly feel like December. Just some food for thought: The record for this day in BOS is 76° (1998)!! So, stranger things have happened. I know there have been a lot of mixed feelings about this weather; some wishing for snow and others happy to go Christmas tree hunting in just a sweatshirt. Well, I hope you’re in the camp of "bring on the 60° days!" because we have more of this on the way next weekend.
It was amazing how much of a JUMP our temps made from lows this morning to highs this afternoon! For example, Norwood started off the day at 20° and then made it all the way to 60° in the matter of 6-7 hours! That’s what dry air will do, is support the large range in daily temperatures; cold mornings, followed by mild afternoons.
Speaking of the COLD morning today, I do expect temps to drop below the freezing mark in the ‘burbs again tonight. We did have some patchy freezing fog causing some spots of black ice early this morning – and that is a good likelihood again tonight and early tomorrow. So if your travels take you to, or through, any low lying valley areas – use caution and be alert. It’s called "black ice" because you can’t see it. Lows will be in the mid to upper 20s in the coldest spots, and in the mid to upper 30s for the city.
It will be another mild day tomorrow, with more clouds than sun! Highs will top out between 54-59°. Don’t like it? Wait a day. Clouds will move in as the clocks tick over to Tuesday, and temperatures will NOT rebound on Tuesday like they have the last few days. However, with all of these "above normal" days, maybe you’re wondering what "normal" feels like? Tuesday and Wednesday will both be very close to "normal" – very "seasonable," to put it another way – only in the low to mid 40s. Oh, that’s what the beginning of December is supposed to feel like…
A system pulls itself together to our south overnight Mon-Tuesday, and then passes to our SE on Tuesday. This will bring in the clouds, and may even kick up a breeze – but it looks really unlikely to be getting any precip out of this. The best chance would be for Cape Cod and the Islands to get some showers and stronger wind, but I still only give those areas about a 20% chance. We’ll have to wait for another "chance of showers" on Thursday… just a 30% chance for now… and it’s NOT snow. We just don’t have the cold air in place.
Does sitting in 40° under cloud cover on a Tuesday make you miss the 60° days? You may feel that way come Tuesday! Never fear. Another temp boost looks to be in store for us next weekend – which could take our temperatures back to the 60° mark. The wait for winter continues…
Have a great rest of your weekend! – Breezy
