Headaches, lack of sleep, staying alert to check out the next model run… This spring nor’easter is certainly keeping us on our toes! Trust me; we are just as frustrated as you are! How nice it would be if we could look into a crystal ball and say, "FACT: Here is your fact-cast." That would make our jobs so much easier if we could literally SEE into the FUTURE! Regardless, science certainly has brought us a LONG way in weather forecasting – but it can still be tricky business.
Yes, this morning when we were waking up the forecast looked much more manageable. Model runs late last night and while you were sleeping were taking the storm farther out to the SE. Meantime, the Euro has stayed fairly consistent in keeping heavy snow over us – and this has kept us scratching our heads. Which one is right? Which one is wrong? Or do we settle on a blend of all of these different solutions? Again, we’re doing the best we can to keep you up to date… and this evening, we found ourselves back at the drawing board.
Here is your latest snowfall forecast map…
Yes, very different from this morning, but not so different from last night… other than shifting the bands a bit. While the numbers have gone up from this morning, this will NOT be a blockbuster storm. In fact, the NE wind gusts aren’t all that impressive. The strongest winds will be during the wee hours of Monday morning, and that aligns closer to LOW tide… which takes wind and coastal concerns of the "storm impact" scale. The biggest concern with this storm is (that it’s arriving for the first days of SPRING?!) really the wet/heavy snow. Yes – wet/heavy snow that’s hard to move and could also cause some isolated power outages. The bulk of the snow accumulation will occur overnight – after midnight and before about 9 or 10am. This will likely impact that Monday morning commute. Please plan accordingly.
A Winter Weather Watch is still posted for the potential for 6"+ of snowfall accumulation. This will stay in effect through Monday morning. And then, WHERE IS SPRING???? Looks like it’s going to be more ups and downs through this week – but with the temps, rather than with the snowfall forecast (we hope). Hang in there… It’s almost April? – Breezy
