Weightlifting competition kicked off at the Rio Olympics with Sopita Tanasan of taking the gold home for Thailand in the Women’s 48kg (106.0lbs) weight class.

Tanasan was the leader after the snatch, completing a lift of 92.0kg (202.8 lbs). She followed that up with a clean and jerk of 108kg (238.1), finishing with a total of 200kg (440.9 lbs).

Sri Wahyuni Agustiani of Indonesia takes the silver with a total of 192kg (423 lbs), while Hiromi Miyake of Japan earned the bronze with a total of 188kg (414.4 lbs).

United States lifter Morghan King stepped up on the big stage of the Olympics, but ended finishing in sixth place. She completed a personal best and American record 83kg (182.9 lbs), passing Tara Nott’s previous snatch record of 82.5, recorded on July 21, 2000.

She finished the competition with 183kg (403.4 lbs) total after a 100kg (220.4 lbs) clean and jerk, falling 2kg (4.4 lbs) of her personal best of 185.0 (407.8)
