Our weekend weather was definitely a "shock to the system!" Believe it or not, though… both days still came out above average. More of those "orange boxes" going onto the December temperature calendar (see below). We were pulling those winter coats out of the closet this weekend, and now they can go right back into the closet. Temps are on the climb, and new record highs on Christmas Eve are well within reach.
Along with the milder air, we also get some moisture coming in from the SW. This will keep cloud cover around through the better part of the work week. We’ll stay dry today, with some peeks of sunshine, and highs once again will be more than 10 degrees above normal! Highs this afternoon will top out around 50, and low to mid 50s are expected for SE Mass, the Cape and Islands. That’s also where we’ll get some stronger wind today. A Wind Advisory will be in effect for SE Mass and Cape Cod from 10am to 5pm for the potential for gusts to 45mph (see below).
Temps keep on climbing as we move through the week: low 50s today, mid 50s tomorrow, and some spots could even flirt with 70° on Christmas Eve!! I mentioned before that we keep the clouds around this week, which also means there’s a shot at some showers. Maybe you have some last-minute errands you need to knock out before the holiday… Not a bad idea to bring the umbrella along. We’re not talking about a LOT of rain, but some showers will turn on form time to time, Tuesday through early Thursday. Looks like our best chances for wet weather will be Tuesday morning and late Wednesday. Early estimates on how much rain we’ll get this week, looks like between 0.50" and an inch (maybe).
Hey, guess what?? It’s the Winter Solstice today! Well, tonight at 11:48pm anyway. That means that we’re going to start getting those daylight hours (minutes) back as we move through winter. Now, if that’s not some GREAT news on a Monday – I don’t know what is!! Have a great day. – Breezy
