Police recently got a big break in the case of a safe stolen from a Marblehead home.

Police in Wenham recovered the safe on April 12 while on patrol in the area of Boulder Lane after noticing debris on the side of the road. The safe was filled with $100,000 worth of jewels.

The items were collected and brought back to the Wenham Police station.

"It’s an unusual area to find something like that, we do get several appliances and other items dumped in that area," Detective. Shane Kavanagh said.

An on-duty officer researched recent break-ins throughout the area and found Marblehead had a safe stolen from a home during the week of March 12-16. Wednesday morning, officers determined the safe was the same one stolen from the home.

"Was able to tie some of the pieces of jewelry, based on the brand, to their break," Kavanagh said. "At least get some of the property back to the rightful owner."

The investigation is ongoing and active. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 978-468-4000.
