A West Roxbury salon made Valentine’s Day special for a group of military families, giving them makeovers for the holiday.
Unique Salon offered free makeovers to Massachusetts families with relatives serving overseas or relatives killed in the line of duty. Women got haircuts and color and also got their makeup done. Cathy Varetimos said she wanted to treat military families to a nice day.
"They’re walking in, they’re smiling and it makes us smile, it makes us happy," said Varetimos.
Kim Rowean-Finley, whose son is a Marine serving a tour in Afghanistan, said she appreciated the special treatment and called it incredible.
"I think everybody should look at it from the big picture," said Rowean-Finley. "We’ve got children going overseas and it’s not easy and I’ve got a very good support group."
