Today’s weather is more reminiscent of a spring storm, rather than a winter storm. Temps started to climb in the early hours of this morning and we’ll head into the 50s this afternoon, nearing (and possibly tying/breaking) some records! Wet weather has already spread across the Bay State (as of 8am), but it will still intensify as we move through the daylight hours.
Bullet points for today’s soaker:
* 1-2" of rain for most, with some localized amounts above 2". This amount of rain within a handful of hours could cause some minor nuisance flooding and ponding on roads.
* Could be some isolated thunderstorms along with this, with embedded downpours and rumbles of thunder. This looks more likely during the afternoon hours.
* High Wind Warning is in effect through 7pm for Cape Ann, Cape Cod and Nantucket for gusts to 60mph. This could cause isolated power outages and/or down tree limbs.
* Wind Advisory in effect for all of MetroWest through 7pm for sustained winds 20-30mph with gusts 40-50mph possible.
Rain will taper to scattered showers around 5pm, and winds will start to diminish around 6 or 7pm. While we’re done with the wet weather before midnight, there’s still the potential for wet spots to freeze early tomorrow morning – so please be mindful of patchy ice Monday. Temps will fall as we move through the overnight hours, and our technical high temps for tomorrow will likely occur after midnight (maybe upper 40s to near 50) but then continue to fall as the cold settles in. Afternoon highs tomorrow will be in the low to mid 30s with a breeze making it feel like it’s in the 20s! Blustery and colder to start the work-week… Sure looks like winter is back.
A fast moving system moves across the Great Lakes on Tuesday and could bring us some snow showers late Tuesday into the overnight. Doesn’t look like it will amount to much, but we’ll continue to track it.
While the cold looks to be camping out in the area through next weekend, it looks like it’s dry cold for now. Which means – no significant snowstorms on the horizon. Snow lovers, don’t lose hope just yet! Remember, last year we didn’t get any significant snow until January 24th!
Have a wonderful day lounging indoors! – Breezy
