WEYMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - A Weymouth man was arrested after crashing into a fence and several picnic tables, then fleeing the scene of the crash.
According to the police report filed in the incident, officers responded to a dark-colored vehicle on Park Avenue in Weymouth that was engulfed in flames.
A witness informed police that the suspect had fled the scene.
Police noted extensive property damage at a home as well as a restaurant, Jenna’s Drive-In, on Park Avenue. A wooden fence was heavily damaged, and several picnic tables at the restaurant were destroyed.
It was estimated that the driver was traveling roughly 70 miles per hour – more than twice the posted limit.
Cox, 29, was arrested less than a mile from the crime scene. He was charged with an OUI (second offense), unlicensed operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding, and other violations.
