Key matchups
Spain vs. Brazil (men)
Pau Gasol and co. looks to rebound after an opening-game loss to Croatia. While Spain looked to be in control for the majority of their match against the Croatians, they need to demonstrate the ability to generate offense when they need it most. That deficiency proved to be their undoing in their first game.
For Brazil, the host nation also is looking for a statement win. They showed signs of life during the second half against Lithuania, but could not pull off a monumental comeback. If they can take this game against Spain, they may be able to position themselves for a run into the quarterfinals.
Argentina vs. Croatia (men)
Both teams came away with wins in their first games, but Croatia played the much tougher team. Croatia won a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory over the aforementioned Spain, while Argentina trounced one of the weaker teams in the tournament in Nigeria. If Croatia can take down another one of the Olympic old guard, it will be time to start considering them as a medal contender.
With Manu Ginobili, Luis Scola, Carlos Delfino and Andres Nocioni all most likely playing in their last Olympics, Argentina looks to stretch their golden age of basketball into one last Olympic run. A medal is a bit of a long-shot for this aged squad, but it is not out of the question. A win against Croatia would put them one step closer towards securing a weaker opponent
