Stellar day! For the fall, for the month of October and "for The Watch". Mother Nature has another one up her sleeve tomorrow as this fine stretch of weather rolls on.

It struck me today that other than a tropical deluge last week, and (what turned out to be) an idle threat from a hurricane, we haven’t had many storms or long term wet spells since last spring. That’s saying something about the pattern. Seems we’re locked in a cycle of fits and starts: bursts of rain, then extended dry spells. And now, from the looks of it, we’ve fallen into another dry stretch in the coming days.

Other than a few light showers on Friday, the next 7-10 days are dry. Temperatures will swing back and forth depending on whether we sit on the warm or cool side of a front, but since there is no large plume of tropical moisture to tap, there isn’t much to inject these systems with any water.

Confidence runs high in times like these. Very few of these fronts are in the pipeline, so timing issues are minor. Long range, the cooler air may win the day, but there is some question on when that arrives…after next Tuesday or on Wednesday. One thing’s for sure: the cold looks unusually deep and persistent for this time of year. Then again, this far out, the models may be overdoing it. We’ll just have to wait and see if they ease off the pedal later this week and this weekend.
