Some crazy wind today with a lot of towns seeing wind gusts over 40 mph with several communities seeing wind gusts over 50 mph (Boston, Duxbury, Hopkinton, Bedford, Milton, Brookline just to name a few). I blogged on Tuesday about how March does feature a lot of wind (on average) due to departing jet stream energy and strengthening sunshine mixing up the atmosphere with greater ease. Today, however, there were no departing nor’easters, there were no early spring thunderstorms, rather a large difference in air pressure between Low Pressure over the Great Lake states and High Pressure southeast of New England.

Ma Nature in her never-ending quest for balance in the atmosphere uses moving air (wind) to achieve the pressure balance and that’s what today was about. Wind. That wind was from the southwest and more often than not, it’s a warm wind. No different today with high temps up near 70—outstanding considering the normal high temp is 50. Thankfully, we’ll hold onto the warmth overnight and through the day tomorrow.

Unfortunately, our next storm moves into the region with clouds and a scattering of showers. The showers will be just that–scattered–so no washout being advertised here but have the rain gear ready to go tomorrow. You’re more likely to use it tomorrow morning that the afternoon. A touch of humidity makes it feel more like mid May than April 1st–no fooling here!

The weekend……it aint pretty. Lots of clouds Saturday with a few isolated showers but it’s early Sunday Morning (No Doubt) that has me pouty. Colder air arrives early in the day Sunday and it’s likely those rain showers leftover from Saturday flip over to snow showers. Yup….I went there. This is not April Fools 1997 but snow will fly for a few hours Sunday Morning before sunshine returns by afternoon. Roads will not see any snow but non-road surfaces could get a coating-1" before April sunshine nukes it. Sunday is windy & cold despite the sunshine.

A whole new weather system clips New England on Monday with a fresh batch of rain & snow showers. Once again….no need for shovels & plows but the fact that the first week of April will offer not one but two chances of snow is not exactly a Happy Happy Joy Joy moment.

Peace out.
