WILMINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - Wilmington police have arrested a man for his sixth OUI.
On Friday, Aug. 26 around 2 a.m., Wilmington police officers saw a 2007 GMC Envoy driving erratically and speeding in the area of Hopkins Street and Shawsheen Avenue.
When the officer attempted to stop the car, the driver drove off, refusing to stop.
Officer were able to follow the car into Woburn, where the driver turned down Joseph Terrace, which is a dead end street.
Police said the car struck a parked car at the end of the street, and his exit was blocked by several police cruisers.
The driver then tried to escape by putting his car in reverse and ramming it into two cruisers.
The officers were able to stop the car and take the driver into custody.
Police quickly learned the driver had just committed a breaking and entering at The Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue, where he was first seen speeding.
The driver had used the car to smash in the rear glass door of the business, police said.
The driver has since been identified as Brian Caputo, 41 of Lowell.
He is facing several charges including operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor (sixth offense), using a motor vehicle without authority, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, breaking and entering in the nighttime, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating with a revoked license, malicious destruction of property and several motor vehicle violations.
