WILMINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - The Wilmington School Superintendent resigned and apologized Monday night, months after she was arrested on drunken driving charges.

Police said the superintendent, Mary DeLai, was arrested in late August for an OUI in Salem.

DeLai did not inform the school committee, and members only found out about the arrest last week.

The committee held a private emergency meeting Monday night, where DeLai offered her resignation.

Just a few weeks before DeLai’s arrest, a Wilmington High School physical education teacher was arrested for domestic assault. That teacher returned to work after a couple of days of administrative leave.

The Wilmington School Committee met about DeLai for more than three hours Monday night. DeLai offered her resignation at the meeting.

DeLai had been superintendent for two-and-a-half years. The district said it is now looking for a replacement.
