A Winthrop teen was arrested after allegedly vandalizing two schools in the town.

Police found areas of both the middle and high schools trashed and equipment broken.

School officials said the suspect did more than $20,000 worth of damage.

Police said emotional damage was done as well, as hateful symbols were scrawled inside the school.

Several classrooms and the boys locker room at Winthrop High School were trashed.

Police said the incident happened overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Police arrested 19-year-old Ciaran Dillon Thursday morning.

Police said in addition to the damage he also drew swastikas on the whiteboards.

School officials evacuated the school for three hours Thursday morning until they could secure the building.

In addition to breaking and entering and destruction of property, he is also expected to be charged with a hate crime.
